The Relationship between Eating Behaviors and Serum Lipids in Female Adolescents

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between eating attitudes and biological factors such as serum cholesterol and triglyceride level in female adolescents.
Methods: 241 female high school students were selected as the study subjects.
Serum cholesterol level, serum triglycerides level, and body mass index were measured for the study. The subjects were classified as two subgroups by the scores of EAT-26KA and as 3 subgroups by 3 factors of EAT-26KA and it was evaluated correlation of their eating attitude and serum cholesterol, triglycerides.
Results:
1. This study has not shown association between serum cholesterol and total EAT score or any other EAT Subgroups.
2. Serum triglycerides, serum cholesterol/triglycerides ratio were not associated with total EAT score
3. It was significantly discriminated between higher EAT score group(¡Ã20) and lower EAT score group(<20) in serum triglycerides and cholesterol/triglycerides ratio
4. BMI was not associated with serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides.
5. BMI was not associated with total EAT score but with EAT subgroup and psychological factors
Conclusion: These results suggest that there is the relationship between eating attitudes in famale adolescent and serum TG and serum cholesterol/TG ratio, but is not the relationship between eating attitude and serum cholesterol level.
